Walk-off

再見XX = Walk-off ...

Dennis Eckersley

從《狄克森棒球字典》(The New Dickson Baseball Dictionary)中,查詢 walk-off 這個詞,可發現三個語詞:

walk-off  A term coined by Dennis Eckersley for that lonely stroll from the mound after giving up the winning run (Sports Illustrated, Oct. 4, 1993).

walk-off piece  A game-winning home run. Dennis Eckersley created the term to describe the fact that the pitcher walks off the field after one is hit. Buster Olney (San Diego Tribune, Apr. 11, 1994) commented: "Kirk Gibson's game-winning homer off Eckersley in the 1988 World Series is one of the most memorable walk-off pieces of all time."

walk-off pitch  A pitch that results in a game-winning home run. When Steve Howe threw such a pitch to lose 3-2, he said: "It was a walk-off pitch. You throw the ball and walk off the mound. It was a sinker that didn't sink." (Baltimore Sun, May 15, 1995).

Eckersly walked off the mound 1988

walk off

  1. to leave a person or place suddenly because you are angry or upset

cdic.net 的解釋為:

(1): pydict data [pydict]

  walk off

  walk off

       v 1: take without permission; "he walked off with my wife!"; "The
            thief walked off with my gold watch"
          2: go away from; "The actor walked off before he got his cue";
              "I got annoyed and just walked off" [syn: {walk away}]
